The time has come… the move begins! Who's afraid?
Moving house is never an easy task, but with organization and a few tricks, it can be significantly simplified. We have prepared 15 practical tips based on real experience on how to move yourself without dying in the attempt.
Remember: you don't need to take everything. A move is the perfect opportunity to clear out closets and unnecessary items. Less load, less stress, and more order in your new home.

Tips for organizing a move step by step
1. Start with the books
Books are heavy and take up a lot of space. Therefore, it is ideal to store them in small cardboard boxes. Label each box indicating titles, genres, or authors (“cookbooks”, “Borges”, etc.) so you can easily find everything later.
2. Pack what you use least first
Attic clothes, decorative objects, seldom-used utensils… all of that can go straight into boxes. Only leave out the essentials (two chairs, two plates, a bottle of shampoo) and store the rest.
3. If you have small children…
It’s best for them to be with grandparents, friends, or a babysitter. If that's not an option, prepare activities or movies to keep them busy. And if they are older, have them help with the move!
4. Protect fragile items well
Use bubble wrap or protective padding inside the boxes. If you don't have any, newspaper can serve as an alternative. Remember: it's better to prevent breakage than to regret it.
5. Don't close boxes too soon
Wait until you finish the entire category. For example, if you are packing the kitchen, put all the plates, glasses, and cutlery in before sealing. This way, you avoid having half-empty boxes or loose utensils.

6. Label moving boxes correctly
Mark each box with a thick marker on several sides (front, side, and top). Always include a brief description of what it contains to make unpacking easier.
7. Stack boxes in a single space
If possible, reserve an exclusive room to store all the boxes. If not, set aside a corner that won't get in the way until moving day.
8. Take care of glass and mirrors
Cover table glass or furniture with bubble wrap and protect the corners well, as these are the most delicate areas.
9. Never use tape directly on furniture
The adhesive can damage the surface. First, place a layer of plastic or cardboard and then tape over it to avoid damage.
10. Use wardrobe boxes for clothes
Wardrobe boxes allow you to hang and unhang directly without folding or ironing. In addition, they are reusable for storing seasonal clothes in the storage room.
11. Disassemble large furniture
Divide bulky furniture into manageable pieces. You don't need to remove every screw, just what's necessary to transport them without problems.
12. Store screws and small parts
Put nuts and accessories in a small bag and tape it to the furniture itself. This way you prevent them from getting lost during the transfer.
13. Donate what you don't need
NGOs and associations collect clothes, furniture, and toys. If you're debating between throwing away or donating, choose to donate: someone will make good use of it, and you'll gain space.

14. Plan where each box will go in the new home
Indicate the destination room on each box (kitchen, bathroom, living room). This will make the work much easier when you arrive at your new house.

15. Celebrate the end of the move
When you finish, treat yourself: a toast, an impromptu dinner on boxes, or your favorite meal. The important thing is to enjoy the beginning in your new home.
